NEW STUDIO - Part 3

This will finish up our tour of my new creative space.  Thanks for coming along with me.

My cutting table is the centerpiece of the room.  I wanted it to be a free-standing island so I could walk around it and cut from any side.  This also makes it easy to work with more people in my room.
I used two cabinets--one on either end to hold up the top.  In the center there is space to sit, put a garbage can, and I usually have a basket or two stacked under the table to hold current projects.  The cutting table top is made from a door.  Doors make good tables because they are thick, cheap, and big.  Mine was on clearance, it is 40" x 80".

I painted the edges white then put on the cutting mat.  (I wanted a cutting mat that covered the entire surface without a seam, so I ordered the mat first, then I found a door the right size.)  I used carpet tape (double stick) to hold the mat in place.

Under the table,  I had the electrician put an outlet in the floor.  I wasn't sure what I might need to plug in, but just in case.  If you have an island, this is a good idea so you don't trip over cords.

My cabinets in my cutting island hold rotary cutters, scissors, and notions, etc.  One cabinet has all my artwork and supplies in narrow roll-out shelves.  They are perfect for oversized art pages and printouts.
Beyond the cutting table is my office area.  It is only 5 feet wide, but a perfect solution to my office needs.  The transom window over the opening gives it a little bit of presence and defines the area.

Light from the office window spills into the sewing room, too.  I had an L shaped counter top made to go under the window and along the right wall, creating a desk area. A bank of drawers holds up the left end and there are file drawers on the right side of my seat as well.  I have my computer here with the printer on the shelf.

The right wall has some cabinets to store office supplies and pattern masters, etc.  I have my "to do" boards on the back of the walls so they are not visible unless you are in the office.  (These are usually very messy areas--and almost never are caught up.)

The left wall is filled with built in shelves stacked with bins for all kinds of stuff from credit card machines to patterns and books.  My Appli-Glue and Poke-A-Dots inventory and raw materials are also stored here.
Well now that you have seen my entire studio, I would love to invite you to come visit me!
I am having an OPEN HOUSE to celebrate the new studio and my new book!   It's going to be on September 27, 2012 from noon to 6 pm.

Put it on your calendars now and stop by for a visit.  We are going to have so much fun!
Free demos on binding, applique, scallops, bias strips, etc!

Book signing
Free gift for everyone
Door prizes

Since my new book is about decorating your home with quilts, you can see how I use my quilts in my home to dress it up.  It is going to be a really fun day, so bring your friends and come.  I will be giving you more information as time goes by.

Thanks again for reading along.  I did this little blog tour for those of you who are far away and won't be able to be at my Open House.  I wish you all lived close enough to come, but I will be sure to have some prize drawings for those of you who can't.
Keep following along.....

Love the cutting table! I can also picture some clear jars up on top of the cabinets on the right that you showed, filled with red, white and black (something?? thread?? I don't know, but something).

What a wonderful work space. It's kind of funny bz I just painted over my daughter's bedroom (she got married) and the bottom half of the walls was white and black checkerboards! I like it better on the floor.

Wonderful!! I love that I got to share in your quilt space. I was wondering where you ordered that mat? I am getting ready for a redo and love the dark mat.

Tiffany, I got the mat online at cutting-mats.net.
