Open House - Part 3

This is the last installment of our Open House posts.  I promised you that if you did not live near by so that you could attend the event, there would still be a chance for you to win prizes.  So I will be giving away a copy of the new book, Home Sweet Quilt with this post. I'll give you the details at the end of today's post.

Going down the stairs, I hung my new quilt, Secret Garden on the landing.  It was hard to get a good shot here because the stairway wall was in the way, but it is a nice place to display this quilt because you can see it from the main floor, looking down the stairs, and it makes you want to go see what else is down there.

I have very few walls on the main floor and upstairs to hang quilts on, so I had to be creative about displaying my quilts.  In the basement it is a little more traditional.  At the base of the stairs, Cabin Fever is hanging on the wall.

I actually have a quilt on a bed in the guest room.  This is one of my favorites.  I just love how this room looks with Scattered Sunshine dressing the bed.  (From the Home Sweet Quilt book.)  A little bit of random "sunshine" is pieced across the center of the quilt, and the appliqued flowers just drape perfectly over the bottom of the bed.  Woodland Walk is on the wall--it is such a great quilt because it is so scrappy, it goes with everything.

On the other end of the guest room is a crib.  When you have grandchildren, you need a crib.  So this room is kind of like a family suite.  Ahoy! is displayed on the crib.  This has been one of my most popular patterns.

Another bedroom has two twin beds with quilts being used as headboards.  This was fun because I had several small pink quilts and it was the perfect way to display them.  The solid green quilts on the beds make a good backdrop for the bed-toppers.  And that works out well for nap time when my grand-daughter is here--she just snuggles under one of the pink toppers to have her nap.

The family room had several red and yellow quilts displayed.  (I seem to have a lot of this color way.) But I didn't seem to have any pictures of it.  Maybe I can show you that later.  Here's a fun way to display a quilt, using a ring hanger, like you would use in a bath room to hang towels.  It's easy to display your quilt or take it out to wrap up in while you watch a movie.

The large family room was set up with demos during the Open House.  I came down stairs once to check on things and it was stuffed with people around each demo.  I had some wonderful quilters who came and shared their talents demo-ing techniques used in my book.  I am so grateful to them.  They did an awesome job, and just made it a perfect quilty day.

My niece, Maika Christensen does a lot of quilting for me.  Many of the projects in the book were quilted by Maika on her home machine!  She brought her machine to show how she does this.  Her work is wonderful-- I wish you all could have seen her demonstration.

I didn't get downstairs soon enough to catch our other demos on camera.  My sister Margaret was demo-ing applique using my Appli-glue and Poke-A-Dots.  She is a pro, and she did some of the applique in the book for me.

Janet Platt of Quick Point Rulers was here to demo her scallop ruler, and  Cori Blunt of Chitter Chatter Designs was gracious enough to come demo using bias tape to make lettering.  Both of these techniques were used on the Berry Patch quilt.

Back on the main floor, the studio was the last stop.  Quilters stopped here to visit with me and get their books signed.

My daughter, Sarah was here helping out in the studio.  It was so nice to see my good friend, Tina.  I saw so many friends, and quilters I hadn't met before.  I hope everyone had a good time.  I sure did.

Here's a group of friends from one of my quilt groups.  Oh, and don't forget to take one of  those yummy caramel/chocolate covered pretzels when you leave!  (Thanks to my niece, Rachel)

Well, that about does it for the Open House pictures.  Now for the prizes.  Here are the rules:
1.  Sign up to be a "follower" of this blog.
2.  "Like" Jillily Studio on facebook or become my "friend."
3.  Leave a comment here on this post.

I will choose TWO winners to win a copy of my book, Home Sweet Quilt from these comments.  Make sure that you check back to see who won, because it could be you!!  I will name a winner on Thursday, Oct 11.

Watch for my Blook Tour coming up starting October 13.  You can click on the button on my sidebar to read all about it.

Thanks for reading!

It's been such fun to see your Open House from afar. Thanks for taking the time to capture the day for us, when I'm sure you had many things to think about.

I'd love to be entered to win a copy of your book, but I'm not sure if I'm eligible. I follow you, but I don't "do" Facebook, so can't follow or like you there (or however that works). In any case--even if I am not eligible for the drawing--I just wanted to say thank you for the virtual Open House.
