<br />
<b style="background-color: #fefdf8; color: #666666; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">Friday Nov 10 Kari Steiger <a href="http://www.thats-sew-kari.blogspot.com/" style="color: #171314; text-decoration-line: none;"> thats-sew-kari.blogspot.com</a></b><br />
<br />
It's Friday, and we are visiting Kari at her blog--That's Sew Kari. She usually uses the fabrics for children's clothing, (which is so fun for me to see) but I am not sure what she is doing this time. We'll have to wait and see! I do know that she always has darling models! <br />
<br />
Hop on over to Kari's--it's the last stop on this Blog Tour. I will be showing you my other creations using this collection as time goes on.<br />
<br />
I have some pinning and seaming and prepping and stitching to do in the near future!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

She is a talented quilter and teacher, and I can't wait to see what she has been working on! Debby is famous for her stylish shoes. Every time I see her at quilt shows and events she has a new pair of beautiful shoes! <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Of course, she is also known for her beautiful quilting. You will love seeing what she has created with This & That. The cool colors in this collection are beautiful. I love the high contrast, and that periwinkle blue! As you know, black is a favorite of mine, because it grounds everything and adds a PoP of drama.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdkwW3PdO-rusffdTFw0AmbfFn27APoMVNL2TWzo1u5gkgLY172eJklRyLvrlg7uifC-ZiYLT205E1nvJzaMDThKeY4PGZCSzzsr7ugmx6hFBls9LqGJzoX-agjfIQ5Ipo2VhHWTRybFM/s1600/IMG_4764.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdkwW3PdO-rusffdTFw0AmbfFn27APoMVNL2TWzo1u5gkgLY172eJklRyLvrlg7uifC-ZiYLT205E1nvJzaMDThKeY4PGZCSzzsr7ugmx6hFBls9LqGJzoX-agjfIQ5Ipo2VhHWTRybFM/s640/IMG_4764.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
One of the new patterns that I created with this collection is called the Quilt Quilt. For obvious reasons. Fun motifs that we all recognize would be at home in any quilter's collection. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU3RDAB5QYW_xVRt0xCrQu3k6s5HIDyu9BfgpdolrgUL3sd_DOLfPPjN0wc3HPdFy5M7LydEsCtsTqjbBothHx5kZH0bBm5LFZrGKHkuM10rH0uhKxTZewRDa46beXq1OHKAOQOa4hieM/s1600/IMG_1189.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1174" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU3RDAB5QYW_xVRt0xCrQu3k6s5HIDyu9BfgpdolrgUL3sd_DOLfPPjN0wc3HPdFy5M7LydEsCtsTqjbBothHx5kZH0bBm5LFZrGKHkuM10rH0uhKxTZewRDa46beXq1OHKAOQOa4hieM/s640/IMG_1189.JPG" width="468" /></a></div>
<br />
Bolts of fabric, spools of thread, and tools like pins and cutters combine with floral blocks for a "Cut and Sew, Quilt and Bind" project! Here I am at Schoolhouse showing the quilt to Market attendees. We have been so busy cutting kits and stuffing patterns of this one!<br />
<br />
Now be sure to stop on over to Debby's blog and see what is going on over there!<br />
<br />

Today we get to visit Amy Chappel at Ameroonie Designs. She always does an AMAZING job, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with this time!<br />
<br />
This collection has my favorite color palette in it. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUMnCwTlGJPBmezUw1CwKcRt1-xseNTtq6by-Wnu5NbSwG7kpFZtkfspy6rz70Xj-E3gHiaw1T23tC8xNJH5pz0DbkN2YRUR5BgewNyq0f3eT9I_1vjdorFnQyjzkkJLiJjrhk7j9xx8c/s1600/IMG_9138.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUMnCwTlGJPBmezUw1CwKcRt1-xseNTtq6by-Wnu5NbSwG7kpFZtkfspy6rz70Xj-E3gHiaw1T23tC8xNJH5pz0DbkN2YRUR5BgewNyq0f3eT9I_1vjdorFnQyjzkkJLiJjrhk7j9xx8c/s640/IMG_9138.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love fresh reds and yellows, and the white floral is just great. I haven't made anything with it yet, but I can't wait to start sewing and get something new made featuring that print. <br />
<br />
I'll be sure to share it with you when I get going--but I have a few weeks of Festival orders to catch up on first!<br />
<br />
That's why I'm so glad that we can also see what these talented bloggers are doing with this collection. Get on over to Amy's blog and check it out!<br />
<br />

I apologize for being late to post today. We have a fun Blog Tour schedule, and I should have started you off right away this morning, but I was delayed. <br />
<br />
As you may know, I was in Houston for International Quilt Market followed by International Quilt Festival. So I was gone for 12 days. When I got back, I had some catch-up to do: (Besides all the orders and business stuff, etc)<br />
<br />
I got a new baby grandson, and I just had to spend some time visiting him! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNMvJRMFVlDLkv3kgMqsyh1crNY4DfIHfEbgwa2X4wlsu0Ngx_a1GAipPx92v63S78mqK3M5-M9MtuuLnpAP2S5LxJmE8ce3Tl2WqZF9n_Ei-ySq3ZAcs3eCaTmFMdE9sG1BQxxau0lAI/s1600/IMG_4456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1171" data-original-width="937" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNMvJRMFVlDLkv3kgMqsyh1crNY4DfIHfEbgwa2X4wlsu0Ngx_a1GAipPx92v63S78mqK3M5-M9MtuuLnpAP2S5LxJmE8ce3Tl2WqZF9n_Ei-ySq3ZAcs3eCaTmFMdE9sG1BQxxau0lAI/s400/IMG_4456.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Meet Baby Clark. Isn't he beautiful??? Yes, he is!! We are so happy to have him join our family. On top of that, I am a little bit tired from all of the work and travel and excitement of the last 2 weeks. <br />
<br />
So now lets get going on this Tour! Here's a pic from my Festival booth with a few pieces of fabric left on the shelves. I just love the bold colors. And the cheery florals. And the tiny prints. (Well, I love it all.)<br />
<br />

Well, folks, it's time for new fabric!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My new collection, THIS & THAT will be out in stores in the coming weeks. I am so excited about this line. It is one of my favorites! You are going to love the saturated colors, bold designs and crisp contrast in this group of fabrics.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I just got my new yardage a few weeks ago, and hurried to make up this fun quilt featuring a whole neighborhood of houses clustered together on a hillside. It has some beautiful blooms in the border to frame the little hamlet. So I named it "Hillside Hamlet." I am really happy with how this turned out. I made a quilt similar to it a while ago--maybe you remember--I sent it off to my quilter, and it was lost in the mail. A tragedy! I was so disappointed! But now that I have this one done, I love it in these new fabrics! So things have a way of working themselves out!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4HZI9ivdn6ZvaDbNh1OW8mg9T7Yi48Ul4O-2HCRXr0zpmES6kiZ2OnVH419mbQIMOWhqkQwkZDUp8Hzz7wuf5i79YX1Zar00MgOmoTLyTb3JULMSPIE4yKcNzMIfvc-iBlAB6V3Racyk/s1600/IMG_8204.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4HZI9ivdn6ZvaDbNh1OW8mg9T7Yi48Ul4O-2HCRXr0zpmES6kiZ2OnVH419mbQIMOWhqkQwkZDUp8Hzz7wuf5i79YX1Zar00MgOmoTLyTb3JULMSPIE4yKcNzMIfvc-iBlAB6V3Racyk/s640/IMG_8204.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To celebrate the new collection, we are having a short Blog Tour. For the next 4 days, we will visit talented bloggers who will share what they have made using this fabric. I can't wait!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's going to be fun, so follow along!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll lead the Tour, so every day, stop by and I will tell you who to visit. See you soon,</div>

And it has gone by really fast! Today we have a great treat--we are visiting my friend, Kimberly Einmo. She is a great teacher and always has such good ideas--so I can't wait to see what she posts today. Go on over to her blog and we'll see!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.kimberlyeinmo.com/blog">www.kimberlyeinmo.com/blog</a><br />
<br />
So since it is the last week of the Blog Tour to feature my fabric collection, <i><b>Coming Up Roses</b></i>, I decided to whip up something new and fun. I have been wanting to do this project for a while now.<br />
I needed something to put all my stitching supplies in-- to make it easy to grab when you are stitching on a binding or working on applique, etc. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvqlvZ7dRrM723TqRBenY7zFAQ-5SUb4zOMzg82SRX8xnNxuyRn0pPLTuzDpC8lnfkPrbd2dOaNtqUOn1ohcBecHiQTX4DdL1OyJiyYFHOFMEd39Ev48BosJLETEGyQEqsAmjFqs4WpOo/s1600/IMG_8327.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvqlvZ7dRrM723TqRBenY7zFAQ-5SUb4zOMzg82SRX8xnNxuyRn0pPLTuzDpC8lnfkPrbd2dOaNtqUOn1ohcBecHiQTX4DdL1OyJiyYFHOFMEd39Ev48BosJLETEGyQEqsAmjFqs4WpOo/s640/IMG_8327.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted it to be round, so that my Poke-A-Dots would fit nicely. And besides that, it is just a really cute shape! I'm calling this little tote a <span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Stitchery-Do</span>. The pattern will be available on my website next week. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE1pSNBHI5vkaKJEHMa4LN1WJ4D9jYm3YwdxxlkDT9LvEPQn1VA2wG0heDGCs804-cWMKbKvrMMXZNxRaqflcqcmxFip9RBfh4zx9Vx8ZCK260hCV3xpydigjxgsshSz6u2543Z-9PgXU/s1600/IMG_8325.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1592" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE1pSNBHI5vkaKJEHMa4LN1WJ4D9jYm3YwdxxlkDT9LvEPQn1VA2wG0heDGCs804-cWMKbKvrMMXZNxRaqflcqcmxFip9RBfh4zx9Vx8ZCK260hCV3xpydigjxgsshSz6u2543Z-9PgXU/s640/IMG_8325.jpg" width="636" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I put a little pin-cushion into the lid, and a few pockets to hold small scissors, needles, thread, threader, etc. This little tote is not big--but just right for keeping all those stitching items together in one place. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh35u4nrzgIOwFQ24OAds13vKJSQGJB6YPsKBgBXeIrEPHKTGLJDYljmooeuMsN9A5dZrKLkad5P7C4GKktpw20IbGGOHB8GcDjcrFlC3aR-9XUcA-pz3j_t8vBJShiafZ92cNfa3YxHwc/s1600/IMG_8334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh35u4nrzgIOwFQ24OAds13vKJSQGJB6YPsKBgBXeIrEPHKTGLJDYljmooeuMsN9A5dZrKLkad5P7C4GKktpw20IbGGOHB8GcDjcrFlC3aR-9XUcA-pz3j_t8vBJShiafZ92cNfa3YxHwc/s640/IMG_8334.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRQSCa4RMd8LfCWpEcs3GGjXZCL0QIrJz1jxV7vpoE5HRxgtauqY4GpisNDSletmORo9tmuBdvYmh2DS3Tax3pLqv5_d4s-37jx9e5rZjpyv2-VgzOdu-zX4mJA_w-SItwN9wmfZrQAs/s1600/IMG_8329.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtRQSCa4RMd8LfCWpEcs3GGjXZCL0QIrJz1jxV7vpoE5HRxgtauqY4GpisNDSletmORo9tmuBdvYmh2DS3Tax3pLqv5_d4s-37jx9e5rZjpyv2-VgzOdu-zX4mJA_w-SItwN9wmfZrQAs/s400/IMG_8329.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After I made three of these, one in each of the main print colorways, I decided I needed to make one using selvages. I love selvage projects!!<br />
I love selvages from lots of different designers--the more the merrier! But for this project, I just used selvages from my Penny Rose fabrics. I wanted to focus on that, and after all, it is a really small project, anyway. <br />

<i><b>Coming Up Roses</b></i> is my second collection with Penny Rose Fabrics. I have a new collection coming out in October, so I was able to put in a few of the selvages from <i><b>This & That,</b></i> too. And my first collection, <i><b>Meadow Sweets</b></i> is also in there. So this is like a "journal" of my collections so far. A fun idea for me. <br />

Today we are visiting <a href="http://www.beribeedesigns.com/"><span style="background-color: #fefdf8; color: #666666; font-family: "arial" , "tahoma" , "helvetica" , "freesans" , sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;"> Beri Bee Designs at </span><span style="color: #171314; font-family: "arial" , "sans" , sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: #fefdf8; font-size: 13px;">www.beribeedesigns.com</span></span></a>.<br />
I can't wait to see what Carrie comes up with in my fabrics! She is so creative. Hop on over to visit her blog. <br />
<br />
Have you been having a good time? I've been very inspired by the variety of creations on the Blog Tour. It has really been fun. So today I thought I would show you a project I made using a different colorway of the group. <br />
<br />
This sweet table topper is called "Florette." I haven't released the pattern yet, but it will be coming out next week. This one features the rose print as setting triangles to accent the pieced inner section.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoaMU2I3Gebtv29Cd8qOnU0kNCebHq7qEeKTxj_jETm633WG8aJ9ixWfU3f9CAFqb4M3OpyboNvjFqsBcpFxrUjJv9sf7rwkD9r2_RyTm0b2zCkEfI7DRWsnT2L536hOA5VInJrwectLA/s1600/IMG_8242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoaMU2I3Gebtv29Cd8qOnU0kNCebHq7qEeKTxj_jETm633WG8aJ9ixWfU3f9CAFqb4M3OpyboNvjFqsBcpFxrUjJv9sf7rwkD9r2_RyTm0b2zCkEfI7DRWsnT2L536hOA5VInJrwectLA/s640/IMG_8242.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Pinks and greens are always pleasing together, and fresh. Don't you think? Just like these flowers--some of my favorites because of the shiny green leaves and dot of red that sets them off!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I love my garden--it keeps me busy, but sure is fun!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqREDfeOuPw-vRsp__oslYtanwhHJZWJkm3IurTDD02EM7hSNbbpGf4LYNxVvoZMUKiKlMsC14R2lXtF7oJc6rus7yQ4O2hE1BMNJg1BIAy024dLyTsIz5Lf1ZvRZHmzFjyV78h44THio/s1600/IMG_8238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqREDfeOuPw-vRsp__oslYtanwhHJZWJkm3IurTDD02EM7hSNbbpGf4LYNxVvoZMUKiKlMsC14R2lXtF7oJc6rus7yQ4O2hE1BMNJg1BIAy024dLyTsIz5Lf1ZvRZHmzFjyV78h44THio/s640/IMG_8238.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The greens in the collection are a good variety. I will be using them in all kinds of designs, because I always use greens! I'm sure they will mix nicely with my other green designs and that gives me lots of variety to use in accents, leaves, stems, and blocks. I'll try to get something made out of the greens for next time! <br />
<br />
Stay tuned!<br />
<br />

This quilt is called "Through The Looking Glass." It is a lap-size, and is made using my template set.<br />
(See previous post.)<br />
<br />
I have shown it to you before, but this week, I wanted to remind you that this is the project we are doing in my up-coming retreat. Yes, you could come and make this with me! I will teach you the construction process, and my applique technique, plus LOTS more.<br />
<br />
We are calling our event the "Mountain Quilt Retreat." We are going up to a cabin for 4 days to sew and visit and learn and enjoy.<br />
<br />

<br />
No, not those mountains, but you get the idea. We will be sewing on our BERNINAs, so I guess this picture will do. Doesn't it get you excited to come sew in the mountains????<br />
<br />

<br />
Yes, these mountains. The beautiful Wasatch Mountains in northern Utah. <br />
<br />
We have lots of things planned--I can't wait! We have our wonderful quilt project to work on and a few diversions like a live band coming one night, good home-cooked food, excursions, and extra projects!<br />
<br />
My sister Margaret and I will be hosting and teaching. She is an amazing quilter and teacher. <br />
<br />
I am telling you all of this because we still have 3 openings. (Can you believe it?)<br />
<br />
We would love to have you come join us in Utah's mountains. All of the details are on my website. <a href="http://www.jillilystudio.com/">www.jillilystudio.com</a> Hurry--only 3 spaces left, and the retreat is in 5 weeks!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This week I am in Raleigh, North Carolina for a Quilt Expo. I have a retail booth (at the Raleigh Convention Center) and will be selling and demo-ing and meeting lots of quilters. I am so looking forward to this event because I have never been that far east for a Quilt Show. I hope to meet lots of new quilters and spread the Jillily fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you live near there, please come by and visit me--I would love to see you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

</div>
<div>
I told you about my new table runner in the last post, but I wanted to share a bit more about that. I made it for a tutorial I was filming. I got it done just in time! As usual, I was really scampering at the last minute.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Scampering?? Oh well. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The runner is called Harlequin Roses. I was able to fussy-cut the roses from the main print to create the flowers on the vine. A really fun detail.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioIijoeJ7GeQ7uIdvEOf2sfo52ezX503IPYYu9cKUn74LHpcWv6mUu2ufNHDbyOguzhoLbE9Vzon2Oty8fh1wm4mgi9W3EsN0SJDFMeF5cFvpa0rgos7zjX5bGM2fpoVHzIgHFt_9U_GA/s1600/IMG_8177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioIijoeJ7GeQ7uIdvEOf2sfo52ezX503IPYYu9cKUn74LHpcWv6mUu2ufNHDbyOguzhoLbE9Vzon2Oty8fh1wm4mgi9W3EsN0SJDFMeF5cFvpa0rgos7zjX5bGM2fpoVHzIgHFt_9U_GA/s640/IMG_8177.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
I wanted to make something using my new templates so I could teach how to use them. These templates make lots of different blocks, so the design possibilities are endless.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLKaw36vgFLsTXuGPdVXs4BwOhmhmiIPZaq0MHxsnrAhElHgq96T9_ufUT8ZAn5gMnA_z0cyjjT30ugLlF5rD8cWWKpKtOP0UZxkJcz0BQedQ67ROuFvKW_X1lKdR9GfELpqImrs75trE/s1600/IMG_8183.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLKaw36vgFLsTXuGPdVXs4BwOhmhmiIPZaq0MHxsnrAhElHgq96T9_ufUT8ZAn5gMnA_z0cyjjT30ugLlF5rD8cWWKpKtOP0UZxkJcz0BQedQ67ROuFvKW_X1lKdR9GfELpqImrs75trE/s640/IMG_8183.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
I think it turned out really nice. I have been wanting a longer runner for my table because it is so large. The nice thing about this pattern is that you can easily increase or decrease the size by add to the center blocks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We did the filming, and it took <i>all day</i>. Whew! That means you will have an excellent quality tutorial that will make learning these techniques simple. The class will be available online, but not for a while--they still have to edit, format, publish, etc, etc. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
They had the set all dolled up with my fabrics! It was such a fun day.<br />
<br />

<br />
I bet you are wondering where this tutorial will be....I almost forgot to tell you! It's on the new site, <a href="http://www.imaginewithrileyblake.com/">Imagine With Riley Blake.</a> This is a great site where you can purchase classes online. Once you buy a class, you can view it as many times as you like, any time. There are also some free tutorials that you can view as well. It is a new site, and so there are not tons of classes yet. But they are filming and uploading new ones all the time, so that will grow. <br />
<br />
I have one other class up on the Imagine site--Meadow Weaver. Check it out!<br />

<br />
Everything is coming up roses--at least here at Jillily Studio! Today is the start of my Blog Tour to show off my new fabric collection,<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> <span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">COMING UP ROSES</span></span><br />
<br />
from Penny Rose Fabrics. I have a bunch of wonderful bloggers who were kind enough to make something using my fabrics to share with you. Every Thursday for the next 6 weeks we will all be treated to some fun quilty inspiration!<br />
<br />
I sure appreciate these bloggers for lending their time and talents to this little tour. We are going to have a great time, so come along with us!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have been waiting for this fabric to arrive F O R E V E R! Finally it came, and it is now sitting beautifully on my shelf in the studio. I love to get new fabric, and for some reason, I spend hours arranging it and displaying it--just to mess it all up when we start cutting kits, etc! I just love the way it looks on the shelf!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrb_xnKUVIdlkOkpM706KZWJyrzGXJZchDyiJ7qx0WpjwclVYV5WZuX3ammHMMACS6NzN8LPBt_8K-X6bSWV59gVlL716sNuDkXtaYz8nTbbbNc2lRwLdI3s2UQbZ8GZeBXSO66hzfyXs/s1600/IMG_8148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1066" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrb_xnKUVIdlkOkpM706KZWJyrzGXJZchDyiJ7qx0WpjwclVYV5WZuX3ammHMMACS6NzN8LPBt_8K-X6bSWV59gVlL716sNuDkXtaYz8nTbbbNc2lRwLdI3s2UQbZ8GZeBXSO66hzfyXs/s640/IMG_8148.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I need to get more shelves in here. The studio is bursting with bolts of fabric! I can't wait to show you some of the new designs I have made using this collection. <br />
<br />
Here are three projects that I made with my sample fabric several months ago. From the left, they are: <i>Through The Looking Glass, Every Blooming Thing,</i> and <i>Tiny House Craze</i>. (These patterns and kits are available on my website--<a href="http://www.jillilystudio.com/">www.jillilystudio.com</a>)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW-1x44ZA1wclhpuPuMY3dFNZu88ms-2pDfN3MmdXVKK9ZiKXC0ZMlb5muEsAlM8iJrsGDQk6PeAO67awU_Jn8M-PLM0NhRapYyxQgOkgDZGcJ8c32DpiXREVbgYITW2PBJq-IDgMdxmM/s1600/DSC_3305.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1233" data-original-width="1600" height="492" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW-1x44ZA1wclhpuPuMY3dFNZu88ms-2pDfN3MmdXVKK9ZiKXC0ZMlb5muEsAlM8iJrsGDQk6PeAO67awU_Jn8M-PLM0NhRapYyxQgOkgDZGcJ8c32DpiXREVbgYITW2PBJq-IDgMdxmM/s640/DSC_3305.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now that I have more fabric in stock, I am dreaming up even more fun designs. There just isn't enough time in the day! (Do you have that problem, too?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9v_o-_zU2X3Me9eN101BMcU5jiIKp6N_eTcfetQDeiKA611XTBVCEYqP8rV1OCtiDwDWp2JMX-HYH-taTG1xZ8AO0bJA4Fg2MQKvLl9LW29sSwUbOKJxo5vBXm6LzxUfJZ0bPdUo0OMU/s1600/IMG_8152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9v_o-_zU2X3Me9eN101BMcU5jiIKp6N_eTcfetQDeiKA611XTBVCEYqP8rV1OCtiDwDWp2JMX-HYH-taTG1xZ8AO0bJA4Fg2MQKvLl9LW29sSwUbOKJxo5vBXm6LzxUfJZ0bPdUo0OMU/s640/IMG_8152.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Pre-cuts of these fabrics are also available--I think we will have 10" stackers, 5" stackers, fat quarter bundles, and rolie polies. I have a few of these in stock and more are coming.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

But when I am cutting for a quilt, I usually am cutting smaller strips and blocks. (I love small pieces, don't you?) So when cutting for piecing, always use your ruler to measure, not your mat. Your ruler is going to be much more accurate. Place your fabric randomly on your mat to avoid the worn cut lines, and use your ruler to measure. </div>

Cross-wound thread is meant to be pulled off of the top of the spool and the spool is supposed to stay in place. Because of this, you will want to put cross-wound spools on your horizontal spool pin on your machine.<br />
<br />
If you don't have a horizontal spool pin (many older machines don't), take a cup and drop the thread in it, place it at the back of your machine and thread your machine normally. The thread will pull off the top of the spool like it's supposed to.<br />
<br />
A straight-wound spool means that the thread is just wound straight onto to the spool (no 'X'). These spools are meant to sit on the upright spool pin. The actual spool is supposed to spin when the thread comes off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/EZoJB9pWupw/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EZoJB9pWupw?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
Now you know the difference between straight-wound and cross-wound and you can put your thread on the correct spool pin!Jill Finleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07124729769744048567noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5755915205092949801.post-15143752435367757992017-01-10T06:30:00.000-07:002017-01-10T06:30:08.640-07:00Cotton vs. Wool BattingLast week, I took out a few of my quilts to take some photos, and there were creases where they had been folded. This usually happens when I open a quilt that has been folded for a while, but I usually use wool batting for most of my quilts, which means the creases fall out quickly. With this one quilt I'd unfolded, the crease wouldn't come out! Then I remembered that it was a rare occurrence where my quilter used cotton batting.<br />
<br />
Cotton batting will hold a crease longer than a wool batting will, because the wool has more spring to it so it bounces back. I much prefer the wool to the cotton because I think quilts drape nicer with wool and it shows off quilting much better. It's also pretty breathable! It is more expensive than cotton, but for me it's worth it to not get hard creases in my quilts every time I unfold them.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
A couple of weeks ago I did a Facebook Live event; a Christmas Home Tour! I kind of wanted to do low-key decorating and didn't want to pull out all of my decorations this year, but once I got going, I got in the Christmas spirit and went all out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was so fun to get to show you my home and some of my favorite Christmas traditions. If you missed the live event, you can watch the video on my Facebook Page: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/jill.finley.90/videos/10211944386192977/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE">Jill's Christmas Home Tour</a></div>

Instead of only using fabrics from one line, I like to grab different fabrics in varying shades of the same color to add dimension. It also helps use up fabric I already have in my scrap bin!<br />
I use dark and light colors within the same color family (example: yellow-greens instead of blue-greens) to give my quilts a bit of a scrappy look. If all of your fabrics that are too much alike, it seems like there isn't any reason to change fabrics.<br />
If you want to add in a darker (or lighter) fabric than the main prints you're using, make sure you pick a few of those pieces so that that particular shade doesn't stand out.<br />
<br />
The main thing to do when choosing fabrics is putting them all together to see how they look together. With some practice, it'll soon become second nature! Good luck choosing your fabrics for your next quilt!<br />

A Yo-Yo starts as a circle of fabric and ends in a bunched, 3D circle:</div>
<div>
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5urwTgleBjLhyphenhyphen_jU-5YwKoWvdmEpakorcclhPGLFgrmS9_jCcN8iaPE9C6qA5n_Rg7HfpWD0LKWwr9MLOGuetQdmGEVS0CDMH9_282KErwnEcqAoIkckjdFBesW0i2I87bZeuMZSMND8/s1600/YoYo.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="123" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5urwTgleBjLhyphenhyphen_jU-5YwKoWvdmEpakorcclhPGLFgrmS9_jCcN8iaPE9C6qA5n_Rg7HfpWD0LKWwr9MLOGuetQdmGEVS0CDMH9_282KErwnEcqAoIkckjdFBesW0i2I87bZeuMZSMND8/s200/YoYo.PNG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Watch my tutorial on making a Yo-Yo:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/rTnhlF4xf-s/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rTnhlF4xf-s?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Step-by-Step instructions to make a Yo-Yo:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Cut a circle out of fabric. It doesn't matter what size, but the finished yo-yo will end up being a little less than half the size that you start with. So if you start with a 2"circle, you'll end up with about a 3/4" yo-yo. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. Thread a needle with a similar thread color to your fabric. I use a 28 weight thread, but if you're using a lighter weight thread, use 2 strands. Don't tie a knot in the end. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. With the wrong side of the fabric up, fold the edge of the fabric in about 1/4" and start stitching around the entire circle. Take stitches about 1/4" as well. At this point, your yo-you should look like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHNSZpRbH-tZ7gi0TauzUQxwGvEy3YlWLegPZ-FDCeoHjhMWgEw3PQa45NUOYZWMz2rtSSZphYac7YVRIy3DOY78Ub_djcFx-wxvi5u6TBlrMp4An92kIsp1a1FSyjdCgll1hN3wLDuNQ/s1600/Circle+fabric.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHNSZpRbH-tZ7gi0TauzUQxwGvEy3YlWLegPZ-FDCeoHjhMWgEw3PQa45NUOYZWMz2rtSSZphYac7YVRIy3DOY78Ub_djcFx-wxvi5u6TBlrMp4An92kIsp1a1FSyjdCgll1hN3wLDuNQ/s1600/Circle+fabric.PNG" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. Pull on both ends of the thread to gather the fabric and then tie the ends in a knot. This will create sort of a pouch, and it's not pretty...yet.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5. Take your pouch and push the center down and pull the sides out until it lays flat. Arrange the gathers so they look even. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
6. With the needle still threaded, poke straight through the center of the gathers and out the back end. Thread other thread and repeat so both strands are sticking out of the back. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
7. Tie the two threads in a knot at the back of the yo-yo, and you're ready to applique on your quilt!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One of the quilts I've used yo-yos on recently is my <a href="http://www.jillilystudio.com/shop/Patterns/Patterns-/p/Meadow-Weaver-Pattern-x21355739.htm" target="_blank">Meadow Weaver Quilt</a>. I used blue and yellow yo-yos as little flowers in the center medallion and yellow along the border. </div>
<div>

I use it for piecing and for my applique hand work and I absolutely LOVE it! Aurifil is made in Italy, and is a very high quality cotton thread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.jillilystudio.com/shop/Aurifil-Threads.htm"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh18cCE7IheK0SjuXdHuaKgleICagrHNHLCxEfO95HwRhpjdOJVxfLGaj52-5S969OMlgHN3pN5CbjAKtRSjEGm0ErnFZVH-LJnnHH_zHLog9KMmti7MM8fJvhFf5_R9MC-3DpF7Do5rJs/s320/image1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I mainly use the Aurifl 50 wt (orange spool), though they do make other weights, and I love those as well when I'm doing embroidery or other miscellaneous sewing. Aurifil thread is 100 % long staple Egyptian cotton, which makes it very fine, but it is strong because it is dense. Fine thread makes your piecing more accurate because it takes up less room in your seam allowance. More thread also fits on your bobbin. Aurifil thread does not have lint and because it is a 2-ply, low twist thread, it doesn't tangle when you're doing hand work. I stopped having to use thread conditioner when I applique when I switched to Aurifil.<br />
<br />
Try it out. I promise you won't be disappointed!<br />
<br />
Watch this little video for more information about the reasons I love Aurifil:<br />

<span style="font-family: "century gothic"; font-size: 16px;">These cuckoo clocks are fun for me because I have Swiss heritage. In fact, a few years ago, I designed a fabric line, Elizabeth's Letters, which featured a letter written in 1898 by my Swiss great-grandmother to her daughter, Margaritha, when she was leaving Switzerland to come to America. The letter is written in high German, so I can't actually read it, but I have the translation and the words are special to me. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "century gothic"; font-size: 16px;">This summer, my daughter and her family were able to take a trip to Switzerland to visit the home that Margaritha left to come to America. The house and property are still a working farm today! Even the old "cheese house" where their family made cheese is being used as living quarters. It was a neat experience for them to be able to visit the house and I hope that I will be able to visit it one day as well! </span></div>

I wanted to share a little tip about a guideline I keep on my sewing machine bed that helps me sew so much faster! You can do it yourself, it's easy, and it will save you a ton of time when you're piecing!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You'll need about 6 or 7 inches of duct tape - enough to go from your needle to the edge of your machine bed. The wilder the tape, the better, in my opinion. I used sparkly silver duct tape, and it works perfectly because I don't ever sew with anything sparkly so when I see too much of the sparkles, I know I'm not lined up correctly (more on this later). It also makes my machine look fancy!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">When sewing corner triangles, you typically need to draw a line down the wrong-side center of the square that you're sewing on. When you have a ton of those blocks to sew, though, drawing all those lines can be tedious! With the tape guideline, you just need to put your needle down in the top corner and follow the tail end of the other corner as it is lined up with the left side of your guideline. Keep the corner lined up with the guideline and you'll come out with a perfectly straight line down the middle of your square. </td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Instead of drawing a line down the center of the fabric and sewing 1/4" to the right and left to make two half square triangles, just place your square in the machine with the top point lined up with your 1/4" presser foot (the other point will line up on the right side of the guideline) Put your needle in to start and stitch, keeping the block straight the whole time, then flip it around and do the same to the other side. Usually I will chain stitch pieces like this and do a whole row of seams on the left and then flip all of my pieces around and do the other side.</td></tr>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">When you're just piecing with regular 1/4" seams, line up your piece with the right of the tape.
